Album Review: Planet Nine: Alter Ego - ONEWE

Onewe are a fairly recent discovery of mine. As far as k-bands (kpop groups who play their own instruments) go, they tend to be fairly unappreciated. It's hard to know why. They provide some of the best tunes k-bands have to offer. Everything from the summer, EDM bop End of Spring to the emotional, Parting, they really cover all the bases. On this latest release, they really aren't holding back on providing some great indie tunes for your ears.

Planet Nine: Alter Ego spans 7 tracks that really tell a story. Each track ranges a different set of emotions that are perfect from any mood. There are the slow, emotional burners like the title track Rain To Be, AuRoRa, and the closer COSMOS. These tracks really showcase the strong vocals they have to offer. Rain To Be is a great choice for a title track because while it is more emotional, it does have its fast moments like the great guitar solo near the end. COSMOS closes out the record nicely with sweet vocals and nice guitar and piano melodies that are pleasant to the ears. The stand-out track on this record, though, is AuRoRa. This is an emotional stadium rock tune that is just eargasm-worthy. The vocals are strong and the guitars and drums are powerful (especially on the solo near the end). They do a good job of building up to the powerful chorus that just moves. It's a perfect song that is to not be missed out here.

The album also has some summer fun tracks that I feel Onewe is perfect at making. A.I. is a fun bop with a simple beat that is just good at cruising with the windows down. Veronica immediately follows that up with a nice instrumental chorus that has the perfect guitar melody. There is also a pleasant rap in this song that truly doesn't feel out of place. It really builds nicely to that instrumental break. This is another stand-out b-side from this album for sure and it's just in time for summer!

Planet Nine: Alter Ego is an album that is perfectly crafted by Onewe. It really flows well together and shows Onewe's strengths off well. The instrumentals are amazing. The vocals are truly on par. And they've certainly delivered some of the best songs of the year hands down. This album is a gift and is up there with the best of this year. These guys truly deserve more credit for what they are doing.
