Album Review: Waterfall - B.I

B.I had a kingdom built up around him long before his debut. But he became most well-known for his leadership and lyricist role in the group, iKon. Here, he wrote a majority of their songs and showcased some really impressive rap skills. He was on top and had a path carved for him. After one thing led to another, he was forced to find a new path for himself. His album, Waterfall, is the beginning of another journey and it's certainly a great place to start.

Waterfall is like a personal diary that long-time fans and new fans alike I think would appreciate. After a long couple of years out of the spotlight, he had a lot to say and talk about. In the 12 tracks this album offers, he bears it all. It's emotional but heart-warming. He not only showcases his rap skills (like on the opener Waterfall and Flow Away) but this album is carried more by his vocals (like on the title track, illa illa, and closer Re-Birth).

This album is emotional. Waterfall opens the record with a heavy rap that really carries the record. Tracks like Numb which features a low-key guitar and soft vocals and Flow Away which features a low-key rap really keep that emotional sound going. But there's also a hopeful side to this record too. Remember Me, even with its sad lyrical nature, is carried by a cute instrumental. The title track, illa illa, talks about coming back up and "rebuilding a sandcastle." Re-Birth, then, closes the record on a hopeful note for fans.

Waterfall is an emotional but incredibly heart-warming record. B.I really showcases his hurt but hopes for the future. It's him wearing his heart on his sleeve. There's a lot of love and care put into this record and you can tell when you listen to it. It's certainly a treasure and I could see this making it to my top albums this year. B.I certainly came back strong and I can't wait to see where he goes now.
