Album Review: Devil - ONEUS

Oneus were definitely one of my favorite discoveries of last year. With their dark and cinematic concepts and aggressive singles which I live for, it's no wonder they made it onto my top songs and albums of last year. And it's also why I was very excited for this album, Devil. Devil is their first full-length project since their debut in 2018 and it's a trademark move from them. A typical Oneus project can be described as an aggressive, heavy title track with softer b-sides. And this album is no exception to that rule.

No Diggity is the title track to this album and it gives us their hard and aggressive side. It's a song about jealousy with an aggressive chorus that has some hardcore hip-hop influences. Its noise instrumental that is full of guitars in the verses that switches to heavy synths in the chorus and beat (that really switches up at the end of the song) provides a nice dance-able moment on the record. It also showcases their versatility with their aggressive singing in the chorus and softer voices in the verses. It's a certified bop.

The album's high moments certainly don't stop there though. Even though the rest of the album is comparably softer to the title track. There are songs like Bbusyeo (which was released as a digital single last month) that are fun moments to bop your head along too. This song features some fun trumpets and a cute instrumental that I can see being perfect for a summer playlist. What You Doing? also features a nice groovy isntrumental that pairs well with soulful vocals and their low-tone raps. It's a sexy groove to bop along too. Rewind and Incomplete are both future bass tracks with some great synths in the choruses that pair well with their incredibly beautiful vocals. The Intro sond, Devil Is in the Detail, and outro, Connect With Us, are also wonderful bookends to this record that really start and end the story wonderfully.

Overall, Oneus are continuing a streak of wonderful releases in 2021 with this album. It's got a great title track that intruiges you from their aggressive style and hardcore sounds but their softer sounds really keep you interested. Devil is an album that really showcases their versatility that you can't help but want to stan. Oneus are a powerhouse of talent and I totally recommend you check them out. This album is actually impressive.
