Album Review: Face the Sun - SEVENTEEN

When Seventeen debuted, they captivated the K-Pop world with their boyish charm and cute concepts. They also had a one-up on other groups at the time because they took part in the entire music-making process. This made the music they were performing more special. They were young men who were singing about things that most young people could relate to. But as they got older, the cute, teenage crush concepts didn't fit the now-adult band.

Last year, they really seemed to mature their sound and style on their albums Your Choice and Attacca. Their title tracks, Ready to Love and Rock With You, saw them branch out into newer territory with new sounds and fresh concepts. It really signified that Seventeen was growing. Now on their new album, Face The Sun, Seventeen really hone in on their mature sound. Face The Sun is 9 tracks long, each of them featuring a different style than the last. There's the soft songs like Darl+ing, that is contrasted with the bangers, HOT and Ash. This album is a journey that will open your mind to the charms of Seventeen.

Face The Sun has many stand-out moments. Darl+ing opens the album and Seventeen captivates the heart and mind with their silky smooth vocals. It's a dream-like song that fills any fan with warmth and love. This goes well with the ballad, IF you leave me, where the vocal line truly sings their hearts out. Then, there are the heroic anthems, DON QUIXOTE and March. DON QUIXOTE has some of the best instrumentals this album has the offer. They build beautifully with Seventeen's performances. March is a rock-inspired banger to get you jumping. Then, there are the bangers HOT and Ash. Ash is a hip-hop influenced groove that features some tasteful auto-tune. HOT, the title track, has a very fitting title. Seventeen deliver swag, sex appeal, and a stylish performance. Apart from that, it's a very good title track as it really showcases the maturity these boys now have. It really ties the album together.

Seventeen have always been a force to be reckoned with. But as the group has matured they really have proven their power. Now, these boys are better than ever. Face The Sun is a real journey and Seventeen really delivered their best work so far. It's definitely a stand-out release not only from them but also a stand-out release from this year.
