Album Review: DYE - Got7

Got7's comeback has been long-awaited for a lot of k-pop fans, including me. Their last mini-album, You Calling My Name, was a great venture and they had definitely proved their worth in this scene with those songs (most notably the title track, You Calling My Name). So when they finally announced the comeback with this album, I found myself completely hyped. There was definitely a high expectation coming from me and they definitely delivered and then some.

The album features contributions from the members, mostly from their leader JB (DEFSOUL). And so there's definitely a sound that diehard fans can recognize and appreciate. It's full of synthy and smooth r&b that he's definitely known for. If you're not a fan of Got7, you can definitely come to appreciate that sound that is delivered on this album.

The band also delivered in terms of vocals and rapping. Their rap line isn't something I've particularly I've paid close attention to. And while this album is definitely vocal heavy, their rap line definitely proves something, especially on the songs Aura and Not By The Moon. In terms of vocals, this album is full of soulful vocals and beautiful harmonies. They take me to another place.

In conclusion, this album is an absolute masterpiece. Got7 have proved themselves to be K-pop royalty with DYE. I hope the sounds that are delivered on this album, are ones that fans will be hearing in the future. I recommend this album to anyone who likes chill r&b and angelic vocals.

Recommended Tracks

Favorite Track: Not By The Moon

This is the title track to this mini-album and it's so fitting. The verses build into this beautiful chorus that I will probably be singing in my head for a while. The vocals, prominently delivered by JB, are insanely good. It's the best I've heard from them. The rap line definitely delivers here too. It's my favorite title track they've had.

Other Recommendations: Aura, Crazy, Trust My Love

Aura starts this record and it's a perfect opening and introduction for what's to come. It features these sexy vocals and autotuned raps. It's a smooth r&b hit that I will probably find myself addicted to.

Crazy is probably my second favorite song on this album (and a very close one at that). Once again, we see that synthy sound but it's more atmospheric and wild. The vocals are also wonderfully smooth and addicting. They definitely brought out their best for this song and I love it so much!

Trust My Love is just a bop. The beat is so fun and danceable while still remaining low-key like the rest of the album. It kind of reminds me of those Spanish songs I hear on the radio occasionally. This will definitely be on my summer playlist for sure!
