Album Review: Fantasia X - Monsta X

Phew where do I even begin? Monsta X have been busy. Just 7 months ago, they dropped what I thought was their best album, Follow: Find You. Then in February after some turbulent months, they dropped their all English album, All About Luv, on Valentine's Day this year. And now they have just dropped their recent album, Fantasia X and my god.

I can count on my hands the amount of album that have made me absolutely speechless. I've sat here for way too long to even try to write a coherent thought about this record and the only thing that could even come to mind is 'AAAAAAAAAAA.' I'm serious, these are what my notes looked like as I listened to it for the first time:

And even as this album sits with me I still have a hard time forming coherent thoughts. But I will certainly try.

Fantasia X is everything I love about Monsta X's music. Every track is unexpected yet every track is also a signature Monsta X song. They show they can go hard (and lord do they go hard) but also show their softer side to them as well. Not only that, but this album really shows they are a phoenix rising from the ashes. This album shows that, despite everything, they are better than ever. My god are they better than ever.

The title and opening track to the record, Fantasia, really introduces the record well. The beat is club ready and the raps and vocals are aggressive. The chorus is dark and smoldering and it pairs well with the raps delivered by the rap line. Zone is in the same realm as Fantasia, except it's more aggressive. This song really shows that they didn't come to play. 'Get out of my zone,' they repeat in the chorus as this insane beat plays in the background. If you don't find yourself going (and pardon my french) apeshit while listening to this, there is something wrong with you.

Along with those aggressive tracks, they show their softer side to themselves which is something I've come to appreciate. Songs like Beautiful Night and the closer Stand Up really showcase the vocals they all can deliver. The latter song also has a really fun sing along that will be great for the shows once those can happen again. Chaotic really shows the best to both worlds. We have the aggressive raps that are delivered by Joohoney and I.M but featuring the soulful, sweet vocals of Kihyun in the chorus.

They also showcase their songwriting skills on this record. All tracks were penned at least by Jooheon and I.M. Flow, specifically, was all written and composed by Jooheon and you can certainly hear those hip-hop influences. Every song is composed and produced to perfection because it really showcases each member well.

In conclusion, well uh, this album is (pardon my french again) FUCKING PERFECTION! I can't even begin to tell you how hard it is to describe how good this album is. They showed absolutely no mercy when creating this record. Every member is showcasing their talents well. In fact, they're all going above and beyond. The vocals delivered on every single song are soulful and sexy. The raps are aggressive just how I like them. The tracklist flows really well with no track feeling out of place. And it's just produced to perfection. I would recommend this album to literally everyone because there is something for everyone. This album really proves that Monsta X are the force to be reckoned with and they proved why they are my favorite band.

Favorite Track: Zone

Zone is probably going to become my favorite Monsta X song. This song has all the best aspects of my favorite Monsta X songs and turns them up to 11. It's got the sickest drop I've ever heard in my entire life. I literally can't help but go insane as I listen to it. Then, there's the raps that are absolutely incredible. They just went insane on this track and I love it.

Other Favorites: Haha as if I could choose. Literally every other track.

This album has anything you could possibly ask for in 7 tracks. If you want another club tune then listen to Fantasia. If you want more vocal heavy tracks then Beautiful Night is for you. Aggressive raps? Chaotic and Zone. Sing along tunes? Stand Up and It Ain't Over. It's got it all and so choosing favorites is impossible. This album is for you regardless of your taste.

Fantasia X is out everywhere and you can check it out on your preferred streaming service (Apple Music, Spotify)! And check out the music video for the title track, Fantasia, below!
