Album Review: Sticker - NCT 127

NCT were one of the first K-Pop groups to utilize noise pop in their music. From their debut in 2016 to now, these guys have made wacky instrumentals sound amazing and fun to bop to. But one thing is for sure, not everyone is a fan of such sounds and NCT 127 is proving it on their latest album. Sticker is an album that is dividing opinions but in reality, it's just an album that you need to grow into.

Sticker is full of noise. There are tracks like Lemonade, Breakfast, and the perfectly named, Bring The Noize that are some songs that feature some wild instrumentals. These songs feature some crazy synths and insane beats but they're ready for your next dance party. They're not too left field to the point where they are unlikable. The title track, Sticker, is where the dividing opinions are coming from.

The song Sticker is the definition of noise. It seems like the producers threw in a whole kitchen sink of beats and instrumentals. Upon first listen, you might think "Is this even music?" But after a few listens you'll find it stuck in your head and not as bad as you think it was. I actually hated it first listen and I'm someone who enjoys noise tracks but this was driving me wild. Eventually after a few listens, I really found it to be enjoyable. So, don't completely write off this track because it might take some time for it to really strike a chord. Their vocals really deliver and the chorus is catchy. It's actually a great track.

The album also features some chill moods though which are great for those who don't like insane pop instrumentals. There's the song Focus which is a chill R&B mood. Their vocals really shine here for sure. Magic Carpet Ride is a nice ballad song that has some nice atmospheric instrumentals. The song, Far, is a nice happy medium between insane and chill. It's got those chill vocals but an explosive chorus to keep you interested!

Sticker as an album might be a little shocking on the first listen. There are tracks on there that will make you question what music is, namely the title track Sticker. But after a few listens, you'll find yourself coming back to this album again and again. It's got everything from great raps, heavenly vocals, and fun instrumentals. Sticker is one of NCT 127's best albums period.
