Album Review: 1+1=1 - HyunA&Dawn

Hyuna and Dawn have had their fair share of experience in the K-Pop industry. Between the two of them, they have debuted a whopping 10 times in different groups and solo-wise. But after announcing their relationship and getting kicked out of their last company in 2018, these guys have really gone on to make paths for themselves. DAWN had an impressive debut last year with DAWNDIDIDAWN and Hyuna dropped the iconic bop, I'm Not Cool, just this year. So with their iconic musicality and talent, it was only a matter of time before these two made an album together and it's truly a stunner. 1+1=1 isn't Hyuna and Dawn's first foray together (they were a part of the co-ed group, Triple H for a year) but it certainly feels more powerful than anything they've done before.

1+1=1 spans 4 tracks and each song has a different sound but they all are just as cute. Their relationship really takes center stage as they sing about love and romance. And these lyrics are really enhanced by the way their voices meld. The title track, Ping Pong, is most evident of that. They harmonize really well over the hook and do a real good job of making their voices flow from one to the next. They show their chemistry which makes it really charming to listen to.

This EP has also has some real bop-worthy instrumentals that you really can't get enough of. Songs like XOXO and I Know feature fun, poppy instrumentals, and those cute lyrics to make your heart flutter. XOXO, in particular, has a jazzy instrumental sound that really makes it for a summer jam. Ping Pong has that noisy instrumental to make you dance and go crazy as you chant along to the hook. Then there's Deep Dive that's a more chill mood but it makes for a great opener so you can ease in.

HyunA and Dawn are experienced idols so it's certainly no surprise that these two would drop an impressive album. These two work so well together musically and 1+1=1 really shows it. Their voices meld in a way no one else's could and their chemistry is really captivating. This EP is surely a top moment of the year.
