Album Review: Super One - SuperM

SuperM teased Super One with the lead singers 100 and Tiger Inside. 100 seemed to have mixed reactions upon it's release and even I wasn't that fond of it. Tiger Inside really hyped it up though. With incredibly harmonies, a chill beat that can still get you grooving, and Taeyong growling that sent the internet into a frenzy, it really psyched me up for what this record would have in store. And truly, it was way better than I expected.

The album's opener, One (Monster & Infinity), is a mashup of two tracks that come right after, Monster and Infinity. It really sets the tone for the record with a superhero theme. Full of powerful trumpets and an explosive chorus, it puts you on the edge of your seat. The raps are powerful and the buildups are incredible. Infinity and Monster come immediately after and they expand on the ideas that they had on the song before.

Speaking of power, these guys really know how to go hard. Songs like 100, Tiger Inside, Drip, and Line 'Em Up, really get you dancing. Line 'Em Up is probably the hardest track on this record. Featuring an instrumental that is reminiscent of South Asian traditional instrumentals, it really gets you dancing. The beat will get you dancing even if you don't feel like it. It infects you. Drip and Tiger Inside are more lowkey in their instrumentals but still know to make you dance.

The album is also full of soft jams that really push you through the record. Dangerous Woman is a sexy bop. Better Days is a sweet ballad about making it out the other side of a terrible situation. And there's the closer With You that features some sweet harmonies and a fun summery chorus. It really showcases their versatility.

SuperM didn't disappoint on this record. They showcase their strengths here. Their harmonies are impeccable and their rap line delivers many mic drops. They all play to their strengths and deliver a lot of versatility. There's something here for anyone! I will be jamming to this record a while to come.

Favorite Track: Line 'Em Up

Line 'Em Up is a song for the ages. The instrumental is absolutely insane. It's got a sexy beat that really makes you just want to go wild. There's a flute that plays in the background that really sets a cool, South Asian tone. You can't help but start dancing on tables to it. The vocals are also incredible too with them also setting a semi-sexy tone. The raps here make me feel a little insane. It's just a great song and I'm addicted to it.

Other Favorites: One (Monster & Infinity), Tiger Inside, Infinity

The singles from this album are really freakin' good. Tiger Inside is full of insane vocal harmonies and Taeyong's rap is the sole reason this is on here. It's just a fun bop about being powerful. In the same tone, One and Infinity are songs that I could be seen played in a superhero movie (and with their partnership with Marvel it's likely). These songs really set the tone for the record. Infinity especially features some insane raps that blow my mind. It really expands on the best parts of One. One is a good mashup and it's something I've never heard a k-pop band do. It's unique and it's badass.
