Album Review: The Book of Us: The Demon - Day6

I had been hyped for this new record from the K-Pop band mostly because my friend really likes them so I keep them under my radar. So today when it finally dropped I was very excited to get my ear (I'm kind of half-deaf right now) on this new piece of music. And man is this record super incredible and pleasing to my ear.

Firstly, this album is very reminiscent of the indie-pop I had listened to when I was a young teenager. So it's very nostalgic for me, especially with songs Day and Night and STOP, but it's still very fresh and new at the same time. Then there's the title track, Zombie, which is so relevant in talking about how boring it is to live day to day doing the same old. Lastly, as someone who is not well educated on their music or discography, it certainly took me by surprise. They have such a unique sound that makes the world of k-pop very refreshing. It certainly helps that they play their own instruments too!

The album opens with Day and Night which is a summery sounding pop-rock tune. As stated above, it's very reminiscent of the songs I was listening to when I was 14, while putting a fresh spin on it. It's something I can see making its way onto my summer playlist. This leads to the title track Zombie which has these really nice guitar chords and vocals that just transport me to another place. It almost makes me forget how boring life is (especially now). Tick Tock is the low-key sounding song from the record. Typically, I'm not big fans of the softer songs but this song appeals to the alternative kid in me. This leads well into Love me or Leave me which has a great synthy groove. The chorus is fun and catchy and when crowds are able to gather again, I'm sure this will be a crowd hit. STOP is the next song. Again, this appeals to that kid in me, with its fun guitar groove. The vocals are incredible. The drumming is impeccable. I absolutely love this track. 1 to 10 and Afraid close out the record. The former offering one last upbeat jam while the latter is a slow groove but it closes out the record well.

In conclusion, this record is just incredible. I think coming from that indie-pop/alt-rock background, it certainly appeals to me a lot. My first thought after finishing the record was "man..... I have to stan." so that's where I'm at. It's just so incredible. I would not be shocked if I find myself digging into them more. I recommend this record to literally everyone. It has its appeal for everyone. So go listen to it!

Favorite Track: Day and Night

To pick a favorite track felt like an impossibility. But I settled on Day and Night. The opener for this record features that fun indie-pop instrumental. I really feel like I could hear this on my alt-rock radio station. It's definitely going to be on frequent rotation for me. It's just so good!

Other Favorites: Literally every other song I'm not kidding

I'm so excited about this record. It's so perfect from beginning to end. There wasn't one song that disappointed me. Picking a few songs out felt so wrong because I just love it all! I literally will rave about this record for a long time. I just really suggest you listen to it. And do not be surprised if this is at the top for my favorite records of the year.

But while you're here you should check out the music video for Zombie:
