Album Review: Stereotype - StayC

StayC have had quite the year since their debut. Despite being from a small group, these girls exploded onto the scene with their electro-pop hit, So Bad. Then, earlier this year they had their first comeback with ASAP. This song was impossible to miss. Everyone was doing the choreo, singing covers, and making it a part of their fan-edits. It was a great, low-key summer vibe which I think really helped with their popularity. Now, these girls are proving themselves to be queens of the low-key bop with their recent comeback, Stereotype.

These girls are perfection. Their vocals are on par, their raps are sick, and their choreography is impeccable. Stereotype, though, is really an EP where they are letting the vocals shine. From beginning to end, these girls belt and deliver some of the best vocals K-Pop has to offer. Whether it's over a drum-and-bass instrumental (like their title track Stereotype) or over a soft guitar track (I'll Be There and Complex) they really let their voices shine.

The instrumentals are also shining. Even though they are low-key, they are perfect canvases for their vocals. Stereotype, the title track, features a funky house instrumental and is a perfect title track for introducing the sounds on this record. It's a fun track with a low-key bop that makes it perfect for a chill vibe. This vibe really continues throughout the record as I'll Be There features chill hip-hop instrumental with guitar. Slow Down features that low-key drop these girls are good at delivering. Complex really closes it out with that slow vibe that was similar to I'll Be There which makes it a perfect opportunity to belt out an insane high note or two. It's a great way to wrap things up.

StayC are singing their hearts out and delivering some of the best chill vibes K-Pop has seen. These girls have gone so far in their short run and there's so much possibility for them to continue to grow. Stereotype is them showing off how far they've come and how far they want to go. It's breathtaking.
