Album Review: Youth - Luminous

There are many groups in the K-Pop world who are promised a debut and fans will wait years to hear from them. Sometimes there are the unfortunate ones who never get to see the light of day. There are others who will see their debut dates pushed back again and again before they finally get their chance. Fortunately for Luminous, they finally got their time to shine after 2 years and a company change. While it was bad that fans had to wait a while to hear what they have to say, their debut proves that the wait was truly worth it.

Luminous' debut comes a month after they released a pre-debut EP, Vision. In that, we got to experience a taste of what was to come. Each member had a solo track that showcased their talents and a full-group track that was a great intro to them. But while Vision was a great way to experience each member, Youth is showcasing how their talents really meld together.

The title track, Run, is a banger that features a strong instrumental full of groovy bass drums and poppy synths. Here, the guys really put together their rap talents and vocal talents to create a magical experience. The vocals delivered by Woobin and Youngbin bring the rap heavy verses (delivered by Suil and Steven) to the catchy chorus. It also features an amazing bridge with an insane high note that gets us to a climactic dance break. It's a perfect title track to really start their career off. The b-side, Home Alone, really slows things down but it showcases their strong vocal talent. The chorus features some beautiful falsetto vocals that really blow things away and an emotional instrumental that just suits their sound. While it's the opposite of the title track, it really showcases their duality and the fact that they can pull anything off.

Luminous have waited years for their time to shine and these men really came out with a bang. They showcased their harder, more danceable side but also a softer side that really proves to the industry they can do anything. Youth is so representative of the talent these guys have but also their goals for the future. They are certainly a group to watch out for.
