Blackpink are certainly the queens of the K-Pop industry. They just broke the record of the most subscribed artist on Youtube. They were the first K-Pop act to play at Coachella. Everyone knows who these girls are so it's nice to see each of them have solo debuts to showcase each of their talents. Jennie made hers in 2018 (appropriately titled Solo), Rosé made hers this year with On The Ground, now it's time for their main rapper Lisa to take the center stage.
YG (Blackpink's label) rappers are certainly bred to be on another level. There's been a long line of iconic rappers from YG; G-Dragon, T.O.P, Bobby, Mino, CL. These guys have changed the rap game for idols in one way or another. It's certainly a legacy these artists have built and now Lisa is adding her name to that list on her debut with LALISA.
LALISA is just a great debut. It's explosive and showcases her rap skills and vocal skills. She's multi-faceted as you can hear in her title track, LALISA. Her vocals really shine through in the choruses and bridge (the latter having a nice long note in there). But there are also those impressive rap breaks where she showcases her flow and how she builds energy. It's energetic and it helps that the instrumental has these heavy dance breaks. The b-side, MONEY, is a rap-heavy that showcases her rap skills the best. She raps over this heavy, hip-hop instrumental and it's so catchy. It's fairly simple and the lyrics are about money but Lisa surely shows up and leaves no crumbs.
LALISA is an impressive debut and adds Lisa to the list of iconic YG rappers. The songs are fun and catchy and her rap skills really shine. But she also showcases a bit of her vocal talent which is really refreshing to see. Lisa certainly solidifies why Blackpink are K-Pop royalty.
